“At Stroud, you don’t need to wait for a role change to try something bigger and harder, you’ll have the opportunity to try it as soon as you are ready (and often slightly before you are ready too). People are the product, so we win when everyone is stretching for the next level of capability and we are giving each other the support we need to be successful.”

Elena
Engagement Lead

What was your background before joining Stroud?

I joined Stroud after graduating from Queen’s University with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering. As a student, I worked in biotech research, oil and gas, and as a graphic designer for a clothing company.

What is a typical day for an Engagement Lead?

There are very few typical weeks as an engagement lead, which is part of why I’m enjoying this role. Every week might include a mix of:

  • Travelling to my team of associates and senior associates to help them get over the hump of a big problem

  • Meeting with our senior client to set the vision for the project

  • Focusing on developing the capability of our Stroud or client team.

One of the advantages of being part of a small company is that I have the opportunity to lead some internal operations, including our recruiting and onboarding team and internal projects.

In what ways have you developed professionally since joining?

At Stroud, you don’t need to wait for a role change to try something bigger and harder; you’ll have the opportunity to try it as sooner as you are ready (and often slightly before you are ready too). Our people are our offering, so we win when everyone is stretching for the next level of capability, and we give each other the support we need to be successful.

What have been your favourite moments on the job so far?

The moments that make me the happiest are seeing anyone whom I have managed or coached deliver a big result for the first time or seeing them be promoted — that, and claiming the title of Calgary office hot wing champion.
